Common wisdom has it that cocoa is a lowland crop. But as producers in South America do prove, it is possible to grow very good cocoa in highlands. The important point is not altitude per-se but a climate and soils that suit cocoa. Around the Mountains of the Moon cocoa is grown up to 1500 m above see level and produces a mild cacao with a distinct fruity-nutty taste and an intense chocolate flavour.
